At the time of its release, the Mark VIII was positioned to be Lincoln's flagship model. To support this, Lincoln spent millions of dollars during the 1993 model year to promote its newest automobile. Advertisements appeared in print magazines and on television. After the initial blitz during the 1993 year, Lincoln spent very little money promoting the Mark VIII, and with the exception of a tie-in with the new-for 1995 Continental, did not produce any new ads until the major restyle of 1997.
